The National AIDS Fund AmeriCorps Program, founded in 1994, was the first, and remains only one of the two national AmeriCorps programs focusing exclusively on HIV/AIDS prevention, testing, and care.  With support from the Corporation for National and Community Service, AmeriCorps affords individuals the opportunity to engage in experiential learning while serving their communities.  Service learning engages individuals in their own educations, while fostering civic responsibility, cultural literacy, and a reciprocal relationship between communities and volunteers.  The Washingon, DC team is one of the six sites of the national program, and is managed by the Washington AIDS Partnership, a collaboration of grantmaking organizations that leads an effective private-sector response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the Washington, DC metropolitan area through strategic grantmaking, technical assistance, public policy initiatives, and investment in youth development through an AmeriCorps program.

Team DC includes twelve members who have dedicated a year of their lives to being full time volunteers at local HIV/AIDS agencies.  Members provide prevention outreach, hospice care, food delivery services, HIV testing and counseling, facilitate educational workshops and much more.  Every week, Team DC comes together to dedicate a full day of service to Washington, DC community-based organizations.
